Splurge vs. Steal

I love a good splurge vs. steal post. It has been a long time since I’ve done one so this is way overdue. I obviously do my fair share to support designers, but we all know that sometimes our budgets don’t allow us to pay for the big name labels. I strongly believe there is nothing wrong with an item that resembles a style from a designer. Now, I’m not saying we should all go and buy counterfeit products from the alleys of NYC, but a similar style is A-OK in my book.

Can you guess which is the splurge and the steal in each picture below?

Bracelet

Splurge: Sailor’s knot hinge bangle from Kate Spade ($78)

Steal: Single knot cuff from Banana Republic ($11.49 once added to cart)

I received the Kate Spade version of this bracelet as a gift several years ago and it is still one of my favorites. It is the perfect stacking piece and the style is so classic. It was a great gift because I never would have paid $78 for a simple gold bracelet, even though I do love it. Banana Republic has 50% off all sale items right now, which drops this similar style knot bracelet down to just over $10. If that isn’t a steal, I don’t know what is.

Sandals Splurge vs. Steal

Splurge: Joie Nice Metallic Thong Sandal from Saks ($87.50 until 4/25)

Steal: Ainsley Thong Sandal from Target ($19.99)

I love the simplicity of this thong sandal. It will never go out of style and will match with everything this spring and summer. Saks Fifth Avenue has their Friends and Family sale going on through 4/25, which brings the designer version of this sandal down below $100. But can you really tell a difference from the Target version? Yes, the knock-off isn’t real leather, but the style is totally spot-on.

Necklace

Splurge: Kendra Scott Rayne necklace from Nordstrom ($80)

Steal: B.P. Mother of Pearl Pendant from Nordstrom ($16)

Finally, I’ve raved about my beloved Kendra Scott Rayne necklace for ages, but it isn’t cheap. If you are looking for a similar necklace but with a better price tag, the Nordstrom B.P. version gives you almost the same look with over $60 in savings.
