Trend Alert: Bare Shoulders

A bunch of you caught my post last week about a bunch of adorable dresses I found on Groopdealz for cheap. Well, as soon as that post went up, I received multiple texts from my friends asking me about the cold shoulder dresses. Too bad they aren’t available anymore (especially since both options were under $20!!), but it is clear everyone is loving the bare shoulder trend this summer.

Now, I’m bucketing two different looks into what I’m calling “bare shoulders”. First, there is the “cold shoulder” where some type of cutout or strap forms a circle around the shoulder. Then, there is the “off the shoulder”, which is exactly that. The shirt is pulled down onto your arms, leaving your shirt off the shoulders. I know, duh. Not ideal for doing things like pull-ups or lifting things above your head, but I’m guessing neither of these trends will translate into workout wear (I hope not, at least).

Here are a few of my favorites from these looks:

Both of these off the shoulder dresses are from LOFT, which conveniently has 50% off all dresses right now (no code needed). The red eyelet dress would be perfection for 4th of July, especially if you add a white or blue necklace. It comes down to $44.75 (originally $89.50) after the discount. You’ve heard me talk a bunch about my love of embroidery this year, so obviously this grey embroidered frock caught my eye. It combines two trends without being obnoxiously trendy. This one is $39.75 (originally $79.50).

Anthropologie has a bunch of adorable off the shoulder items available. I love the look of Anthro’s clothes, but they never are the cheapest. For me, stores like Anthro are perfect for scouting the trends and picking up the occasional sale item.

I love the simplicity of this plain white off the shoulder t-shirt. It also comes in navy and is $68. I’m also in love with this denim off the shoulder dress. It looks amazing paired with lace up sandals and a poufy ball straw bag. Too bad it is $158!

Now, Target on the other hand, is the perfect place to pick up trendy items. Aren’t these cold shoulder dresses so cute? The black one is only $22.99 and can easily be dressed up or dressed down. The white one is a tad bit more at $44.99; however, through 6/25, Target has a buy-one-get-one 50% off on select clothing, shoes and accessories. Both of these dresses are included in the promotion, meaning if you are super into cold shoulders, you can get BOTH for $56.49. Throw in two BOGO pair of shoes and also avoid cold feet (I know, so bad. I blame my father for the bad jokes that pop into my head on a daily basis.)

As expected, Nordstrom has an amazing selection of both bare shoulder trends. I think this embroidered cold shoulder pool cover-up is adorable. It is priced at $74. I also love this simple black cold shoulder t-shirt. Throw on a pair of jeans or jean shorts and you are good to go. Good price too at $34.

How do you feel about bare shoulders?
