Swimsuit season is right around the corner (or here if you live in a warm climate like me). A good suit is necessary, but if you ask me, a good cover-up is almost more important. Especially with kids, I feel like it is so much effort to get dressed, apply sunscreen, pack the pool toys, drive to the pool, find a seat, etc… that I absolutely spend more time in my cover-up than I do in just my swimsuit. On a cooler beach day, you may never shed the cover-up.
Plus, who really likes walking around the pool or beach in just a suit? I’m sure there are many, many uber-confident women out there, but I’m not one of them. Most women over 30, especially those who’ve had kids, really value the cover-up. I know I do.
Here are my picks for my favorite cover-ups so far this spring and summer season:
I recently purchased this fringe cover-up from Victoria’s Secret and I’m in love with it. It is currently $44.50 but if you use code DIVEIN, you will get free shipping and free returns. The tassels around the bottom are the perfect amount of fun without being over the top. I personally went with plain black because it will match every single suit I own, but it is also available in 6 additional colors. Warning, it is SHORT. I realize it is a cover-up so it can be a little smaller than a dress, but I debated exchanging it for a larger size to get a little extra length. I ended up keeping my usual size, but this might not be a good one for taller ladies.
I’ve always been a huge fan of stripes so it wasn’t a surprise this Athleta bright side cover-up caught my eye. There is something about it that is so simple and timeless, meaning you will get years of use out of it. The best part: it is on sale for only $33.99 (originally $69). If you happen to wear an XL, they also have an orange striped version for only $21.99.
Vineyard Vines has 25% off of all sale items going on right now with no code necessary. Embroidery is very trendy this spring so it only seems fitting to include an embroidered cover-up. I love the blue and white combo together, although I find it odd VV had their model wear a polka dot suit underneath. The description says this cover-up has a slight stripe pattern to it, but it is hard to tell with the dotted suit. Still a cute option for $67.49 (originally $128).
I’ve always loved Trina Turk cover-ups because the patterns are perfect for the pool. I found one last year on sale at Nordstrom Rack for a bargain, so now I’m spoiled and would have a hard time paying full price. That doesn’t mean I can’t admire this Nomad tunic, complete with pom-pom trim. I love the pattern, but the pom-poms make it perfection. Although the price hurts at $144.
This paisley tunic reminds me a little bit of the Trina Turk version above with slightly more subdued colors. It is also 30% right now using code TIMETOSHOP, bringing it down to $61.60 (originally $88). You could purchase two of these and still have some money left over for the price of the Trina one above!
I’ll admit, I had a hard time picking my favorite cover-ups from J. Crew this year. A lot of their styles are adorable and this one is right up there with the rest. It also comes in white, which I think I like better than the blue-ish/purple color above, but the picture of the white on the website is terrible. There are tassels around the neck (am I developing a tassel problem?!?!) and dots in the material. It is already on sale and an additional 30% off using code TIMETOSHOP, bringing it down to $34.99 (originally $69.50). Who doesn’t love a deal!?
