When we decided to go down the path of a full gut remodel, I knew one thing. The kitchen had to be perfect. I wanted a lot out of this particular space in our home. Most of all, I wanted it to be a beautiful, functional place for us to dine and live as a family. There are still a number of details that aren’t yet finished (full kitchen post coming soon-ish), but we have already made countless memories in our kitchen and breakfast nook.
Before I dive into the kitchen, I want to thank Interior Define for sponsoring this post. You might remember Interior Define from my master bedroom post last week. They make ah-mazing
custom furniture where you can to choose your style and customize it with virtually every color, fabric and finish around. The quality is fantastic and you have the ability to truly make the piece your own.
Let’s be honest. The kitchen is the heart of the home. Not only is it the place where we eat, but it is the place where my family spends the most time. It is where homework is done. Lunch boxes are packed. Crafts are constructed. Cocktails are consumed. Like I said above, we had big plans for this space.
When we were house hunting and stumbled upon our future home, I fell in love with the layout. We did make some logistical changes like moving the range to the wall, tore out the soffits above the cabinets, built a bar wall, removed a vegetable sink. However, most of our kitchen remodel was cosmetic. The huge island, window above the sink and breakfast nook which overlooked the family room had major potential to become my dream kitchen.
I can’t tell you how many houses we toured that didn’t have a space for a kitchen table. Yes, we do occasionally eat at the island or in the formal dining room, but a breakfast nook was a must-have for me. There is something about a round, conveniently located table for our family to sit down together.
A white kitchen was on the top of my wish list, but I wanted a little contrast for our breakfast nook. Plus a white table with two small, messy kids who love to color with markers just sounded like a bad idea. When I looked at the table options at Interior Define, I immediately fell in love with the Hayes dining table. It’s available in two sizes (36″ and 48″), four table top finishes and 7 leg finish options. The light grey color complimented our back splash perfectly.
Next up, chairs. While I love all the Interior Define chair options, I’m mildly obsessed with the Audrey chair because of the rounded back. It’s super stylish, crazy comfortable and such a statement piece. Actually, I can fit 6 of these chairs around my 48″ table when we have guests over, but I usually stash the other two in other rooms on a day to day basis.
I visited the Interior Define Guide shop last summer while I was in LA and was able to sit in the chairs prior to placing my order. I was shocked to hear the store employees tell me leather and velvet are two of their most durable fabrics. Both are considered pet and kid-friendly, which I wasn’t exactly expecting. Velvet was calling my name, but my husband and I agreed we can never go wrong with leather long-term.
Even if you aren’t near a guide shop, Interior Define will send you 5 fabric swatches and table top samples free of charge. I can’t say enough good things about this company and also hear fabulous things about their couches as well.
