Happy Halloween! I can’t believe we’ve reached the last day in October, which means starting tomorrow everyone will be talking all about the holidays. Before we move onto snowflakes and Santa Claus, I have to share one of my favorite Fall traditions: a visit to the pumpkin patch. And with the pumpkin patch comes my Arizona Fall uniform: jean shorts, a flannel shirt wrapped around my waist and some cute boho jewelry.
We stopped by my favorite local ranch this past weekend to do a few obligatory Fall activities. We went on a hay ride, visited the pumpkin patch, wandered through the hay maze, and played silly Western games. I’m guessing a few of you caught a glimpse at the fun on my Instagram Stories. Therefore, I’ll spare you the billion pictures I took of my kids hauling pumpkins around the desert in this post and focus on the fashion.
The awesome ladies over at Mala Prayer reached out to ask if I’d be interested in sharing their gorgeous beaded jewelry with my followers. I wasn’t initially familiar with the brand, so upon first glance at their website, I found necklaces and bracelets of different colors and materials. Most of the items were around the $20-50 price range and featured some cute tassels. I’ve well-documented my love of tassels on my blog, so I knew their products were totally up my alley. But as it turns out, their company is so much more than cute jewelry.
Mala beads are a string of beads that have been used in prayer and meditation for centuries. I actually know about malas because they were sold in every little shop I visited when Bali last year. The jewelry can be used in meditation to bring calmness and mindfulness, which in all honesty, I need more of in my life. Especially with two crazy kids, a little positive energy can go a long way.
As for my malas, I went with the Kali necklace and the Leela bracelet. There was something about the classic design and wooden beads that spoke to me. Both the bracelet and the necklace had such a simple, but statement-like design, which really sums up my style. The jewelry was also the perfect choice for a busy day with my family, like an afternoon at the pumpkin patch.
Spending the day at the ranch was a good reminder that life doesn’t always need to be so complicated. Our family took a leisurely hay ride out to a field of pumpkins, strategically placed in the middle of the desert (let’s be honest, we all know they didn’t grow there next to the cactus). My kids spent forever moving the pumpkins from place to place, admiring how each pumpkin was unique. They climbed on the hay stacks and pretended to be king of the mountain. We looked at farm animals, sat on tractors, and played simple games like horseshoes and beanbag toss. It was wonderful. I’m not sure if it was the malas, but our whole family was content and calm during the visit. I know I often get caught up in the day to day and need to take a step back and enjoy the moment more often. Thankfully, I was able to do just that this weekend with my family.
