Happy Friday, everyone! I’m SO ready for the weekend because I’m leaving on Sunday for Hawaii! We are heading to the Big Island and I could not be more excited. I have big plans of reading a book on the beach in a swimsuit for 7 days straight. Sounds like heaven with the exception of the dreaded swimsuit. The good news is this year I’m Spring Break ready because I recently completed a body contouring treatment with LightRx. Let me tell you guys a little more.
LightRx is a leading provider of body contouring, skin rejuvenation, and laser hair removal with locations all over the United States. Back in October, the company reached out and asked if I’d be interested in trying out their services. I’ve heard a lot about body contouring in the past and have always been crazy intrigued by the process. After all, I’m a mom of two kids who has less-than-stellar abs. We all have problem areas and for me, mine is my belly. I work out regularly and eat relatively healthy, but I’ll never be featured on the cover of “8 Minute Abs“. Side note – does anyone remember that workout video from back in the day? My college roommates and I used to do it all the time. Hilarious.
After doing a lot of research, I decided to undergo a body contouring journey in partnership with LightRx in Scottsdale. The #1 reason I decided to do it with them is this: it is non-invasive. There is no surgery, no needles, no downtime. I’m one of those who doesn’t like to take medicine unless I have to, doesn’t do botox or fillers and tries to keep it natural. I truly don’t like putting things inside my body that I don’t have to. The body contouring treatment uses completely safe lasers to eliminate and reduce fat cells. I honestly felt like I had nothing to lose. Well, except fat cells, but I was more than ready to say “see ya” to those.
Before I talk about the treatments I completed and my results, I want to start out by saying this was truly a journey and a commitment. I have attended over 14 appointments since early November consisting of various treatments, consultations and measurements. Every single week I carved out time to head over to LightRx. This was in addition to healthy eating and exercise, which is crucial for success. Yes, I had several trips and holidays in the mix so I can’t say I was good 100% of the time, but I did my best and am so happy with the results.
The package I completed was a “Treat to Complete” plan consisting of 2 SculpSure treatments and 10 Venus Legacy treatments in my abdomen area. They are two very different treatments, as the SculpSure treatment is much more intense (and effective) than the Venus Legacy. SculpSure uses lasers to eliminate fat cells (hurray, they are gone!), while Venus Legacy uses radio frequencies and magnetic pulses to tighten skin and reduce fat cells (think a grape down to the size of a raisin). I did one SculpSure treatment, followed by 6 Venus Legacy treatments and then repeated the process. Let’s talk SculpSure first.
I’m going to be 100% honest here with my thoughts on the treatment. It isn’t pleasant. It isn’t horrible, but it isn’t like a leisurely facial. If I had to do 12 weeks of SculpSure, I don’t think I could have completed it. But only having to do it twice was totally bearable. The lasers are hooked up to your body in whatever formation the technician feels is best and you are strapped in. It works in waves where the paddles get very hot for 20 seconds and then cools down for 10 seconds. That timing is really important because just as I started to feel like I couldn’t take it anymore, that cool-down time kicks in and I could keep going. They also provided me with ice packs to place around the treatment area, which is really helped give me something else to think about other than the heat. The technicians also do an AMAZING job keeping your mind off the process.
Some people think this is a piece of cake and others struggle because of the heat. They told me I handled it like a rock star, but I’m sure I wasn’t always as happy as the photo above. Following the procedure, it felt a little bit like I had a sunburn on my belly. I was also extra sore when I was working out, which was awesome because my abs usually don’t get sore. That means it was working! But other than that, there is no pain or downtime following the procedure.
The second time I had to do SculpSure was SO MUCH EASIER. Very little to no pain and definitely less scary since I’ve been through it before. They also said because I’ve done it once, I had less fat cells to kill the second time through. I’d totally do it again now that I’ve done it twice.
Now onto Venus Legacy. The best way I can describe this treatment is a wand which uses suction and heat to massage my stomach. Almost like a 20 minute high-tech hot stone massage. These treatments could be extremely relaxing, but I usually spent most of the treatment time chatting with the wonderful employees at the Scottsdale location. Venus Legacy isn’t painful at all and works amazingly well in combination with the SculpSure treatment.
Now, I know what everyone is wondering. Onto the results. Drum roll please….. They took three measurements across my middle section. One on my natural waist line, one two inches below and one four inches below. I lost an inch to an inch and a half in each measurement. Yay!!! Now, I want to be clear. Body contouring has nothing to do with weight loss. My goal was not to lose weight. I’m perfectly happy with my current weight and was only looking to get rid of some of that dreaded belly flab and I sure did. LightRx takes periodic weight measurements to make sure their clients aren’t gaining weight throughout the process (if you plan to gain 10 lbs but lose fat, that won’t work).
Again, I still probably won’t be on the cover of an “8 Minute Abs” video, but I do feel like my problem area below my belly button is flatter than before. My jeans fit a better and I’m definitely going to be more confident in a swimsuit this Spring Break.
LightRx really specializes in customizing packages depending on your goals and price range. They offer a number of other services as well, some of which receive results after only one or two treatments. For the month of March, they are also offering 50% off all treatment plans. Feel free to check out the LightRx website or call your location directly for more info ((602)635-3211 is the number to the Scottsdale location). I also can’t say enough good things about Alena, Madison and Lauren, who work at the Scottsdale location. They truly made this entire experience wonderful for me and I loved chatting with them each and every week.
