You guys know by now that I went to New York Fashion Week for the first time last month. While I spent my fair share of time prepping clothes and accessories, I also spent a little time prepping my skin. After all, I wanted to make sure my face looked as good as my outfit! Let me give you the scoop.
A few weeks before NYFW, Glytone reached out and asked if I’d be interested in partnering with them on their skincare line. It wasn’t a hard decision since I’ve heard amazing things about their products and was in need of a few new products. Not only do they have skincare products you can use at home, but the also have an in-office line which can only be administered by a professional. I was thrilled when they asked if I’d be willing to try both!
About a week before NYFW, I went to Senza Pelo Med Spa for a chemical peel. I’ve done peels before, but this is the first time with Glytone products. I explained to my technician, Vanessa, that I have extremely dry skin (the desert air is brutal) and am looking for a product that will help with anti-aging. I’ve never done botox or fillers but love finding products that help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
After a talking through my concerns, Vanessa matched me with the Glytone Professional Enerpeel Glycolic Acid 30 peel. I was excited because this particular product gives you great results with basically no downtime. The beauty of the in-office peel is a professional will make sure you doing the correct product based on your skin type and concerns.
After the consultation, we got started right away. Vanessa started by cleansing my skin using the Glytone gentle cleanser. Following cleansing, she applied the peel directly to my skin using a small brush. I can honestly say the peel doesn’t hurt at all. It felt a tad like a slight sunburn, but I can’t say it hurt in the slightest. Vanessa kept asking my about my pain level (1 being nothing at all and 10 being the most painful) and I’d say I never reached anything more than a 3. In fact, the receptionist helped me out and took a few photos during the peel and I’d say most of them look like this:
I was smiling and laughing through most of the procedure. Yep, a picture is worth a thousand words. She let the peel sit on my skin for a few minutes and fanned me with a paper fan, which felt SO GOOD. Something about the cool air while it was on my skin was so soothing! She then wiped down my skin with a neutralizing wipe and applied a recovery cream. That’s it! The consultation probably took longer than the entire peel, which honestly, is the most important part. You won’t see the results you want if you aren’t using the right products!!
I know there are a lot of misconceptions about chemical peels. I blame Samantha from Sex and the City for that one! Does anyone else remember the episode where she showed up at the part and her face was tomato red?! Well, that’s not how the Glytone peels work at all. I walked out of Senza Palo looking maybe a tiny bit pink, but nothing like Samantha. Here is what my skin looked like immediately following the peel. Pretty normal looking, right?!
Like I mentioned above, one of the things I like the most about Glytone is they also have products you can use everyday at home. Based on my skin analysis, I was given the Mild Cleanser, Smoothing Lipid Recovery Cream, Age Defying Vitamin C + E Serum and Gentle Rejuvinating Lotion with SPF.
Vanessa recommended avoiding things like swimming pools, direct sunlight, and exercise for 24 hours following the peel, which was no problem at all. Within the next couple days, my skin did flake a bit and felt a bit rough to the touch, but looked totally normal to the rest of the world. I used the Smoothing Lipid Recovery Cream to jam pack my skin with added nutrients following the peel. I’ve also started using the cleanser in the morning and evening, as well as the serum and SPF moisturizer daily. A good skincare regimen is so important!
Alright, drum roll please….. here are my before and after results. The photo on the left is my “before” shot and the right is the “after”. You can see I’m not wearing make-up in either of these photos so this is my bare, clean skin. Overall, I’ve noticed an overall better skin tone, less fine lines around my eyes (hooray!) and my smile lines are more faint.
And now for the NYFW skin! I’ll admit, it looked amazing. There is no rewinding the clock to make me look 20 again, but I’m pretty happy with how my skin is looking these days.
